Hidden Valley Animal Adventure Trail Side Grill Part-time Line Cook

The Trailside Grill at Hidden Valley Animal Adventure is a quick service restaurant serving American food in Varysburg, NY. This position is for Sundays only. Restaurant operating hours for kitchen food service are from 11am to 4pm, shift is from 9:30am to 5pm.  We need a part-time, seasonal line cook able to work the grill, fry, and panini station. The ideal candidate should have availability on all or most Sundays from May 5 through October 13 (24 days) and be well-equipped to perform the following tasks:

  • Set up and break down the kitchen stations
  • Using our kitchen display system, prepare dishes that take a short amount of cook time, according to          customer requests
  • Grill game meat burgers, cheeseburgers, and hot dogs on the grill quickly and to correct temperatures
  • Fry house made French fries and frozen chicken tenders quickly and to correct temperature
  • Use panini grills to prepare sandwiches according to the recipe
  • Able to follow recipes and prepare menu dishes accordingly
  • Use knowledge of common allergies and dietary restrictions to modify recipes on the fly when requested
  • Use the correct portions when cutting, preparing, and serving
  • Proactively use non-peak service time to prepare for peak service times and rushes
  • Avoid food waste by observing food storage time and temperature standards
  • Plate each dish according to recipe standards
  • Restock the stations with food products as needed
  • Complete assigned daily/ weekly/ monthly cleaning tasks
  • Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils
  • Operate and clean kitchen stations including flat-top grill, panini grills, sandwich prep table, fryers, gas burners, reach-in refrigerators, reach in freezers, etc.
  • Execute safe knife handling skills and safe use of all kitchen equipment
  • Willingness to become familiar with the front-of-house point-of-sale system for good communication between the front and back-of-house

    Possibility of more work hours between Monday through Saturday.

    Qualifications

    This position requires work in areas with extreme heat conditions and frequent interaction with gas burners, heated equipment, grease, sharp machinery, and other at-risk conditions. It also involves repetitive motion; walking and/or standing for extended periods of time, and frequent lifting, pushing, and carrying.
    We are looking for candidates who have:
    • Culinary training; some experience in a quick service restaurant kitchen is helpful
    • Current Servsafe Food Handling Certification
    • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions
    • Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision
    • A desire to work on a team, learn new techniques, and share knowledge with teammates when possible
    • A Culinary degree (a plus, though not required)

      Our kitchen has a positive-energy atmosphere. Sunday shifts are typical for a weekend day, but we try to keep the workspace fun and collaborative, even when we are busy.
